Making space for winter.

If I’m being honest I’m so ready for winter to be over! In my mind it was already Spring! Everything was dethawing, walks in the park were getting warmer, the trees were starting to liven up, the birds were starting to sing a little louder. Yet here we are having our second winter as people in Colorado say.

What happens when you reach for the milk in the fridge and it’s expired, when a tree branch falls on your car windshield, when you’re searching for answers, but still coming up empty, when you feel so overwhelmed by things that normally wouldn’t phase you, when life feels hectic and busy and you’ve forgotten to notice the magic…

Still I will praise him!

This phrase keeps echoing in my heart today! Even when my circumstances don’t change choosing to fix my eyes on Jesus changes me. Gods presence melts my heart of stone. Today I’ll turn to the most steady thing I know when there’s a million other distractions asking for my attention. For I know God is still doing something to my heart in the Winter. The Spring is coming, but in the Winter I will praise him!

For my father knows the season I am in. He has not left me in lack. He has not left me to defend myself. He is offering me a seat at the table. A seat that brings safety and comfort.

His word and his people are my blankets. Reminding me I am never truly alone to navigate the storms that life throws my way.

May I fix my eyes on Jesus today! Changing my perspective. Knowing that the winter winds bring strength. They bring growth. They bring a rest that we cannot experience exactly the same in the other seasons.

“Be cheerful with joyous celebration in every season of life. Let your joy overflow! And let gentleness be seen in every relationship, for our Lord is ever near. Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life. Then Gods wonderful peace which transcends human understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Jesus Christ. Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honorable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always.”
